Super Moon & Total Lunar Eclipse Coming Sunday Night – Eastern U.S.

Even when I was a kid, I’ve always had a fascination with the moon.  It’s up there and it seems so close!

On Sunday it’ll be extra BIG because it’s so close in its orbit around Earth, so it’ll be a Super Moon.  And, it will also be a total lunar eclipse that will be best viewable in the eastern half of the U.S.  This image shows the various viewing zones on earth.

And, this video will help!

Anticipating this Super Moon and lunar eclipse, I decided to take a few pictures tonight, through a hazy sky.

And, there is no truth to the rumor that my Sweetheart, my fiancée, was seen riding a great white shark across the face of the moon, as far as anyone can tell.

Moon, Moon, What A Moon!

Two nights ago, I was supposed to be in the perfect location to view and photograph the fantastic moonrise over Cincinnati.  However, strong thunderstorms decided to upset those plans, so I remained indoors and dry.  But, it was only a little more than two hours later, around 10 PM, that the clouds were clearing out and I’d be able to take a somewhat “super moon” pic or two.  I wasn’t disappointed.

In four weeks, there will be a real “Super Moon” which is when the moon is closest to earth in it’s yearly orbit and directly after the full moon will be a total lunar eclipse which will be visible over the Eastern/Central U.S.  Yes, we are in the perfect place for this coming total lunar eclipse, when only lights from earth will light up the moon, because the earth will block the Sun’s light and the moon will glow an orangish color.  I can’t wait!

Moon Reflection

A gorgeous full moon rising is a thing of beauty.

But with a reflection it’s that much better!

Some Sunsets Are Just Indescribable!

Sunset with Eclipse

You might get lucky and see a gorgeous sunset over an ocean.

But, one featuring a partial eclipse at the same time?

That’s a once-in-a-lifetime event!

Cassini Spacecraft photo of Saturn

Saturn

This photo of Saturn was taken some years ago by the Cassini spacecraft.  The Sun is on the opposite side of Saturn in this picture, which is making it glow this way.
